You Have Questions? We Have Answers!

What is the best bucket hat for kids?

The one they will not take off. A bucket hat covers the ears, the neck and the nose at once, which a cap cannot, and a reversible one gives them a say in how it looks, which is most of the battle. The Jetpilot Kids Reversible Bucket Hat is lightweight, comfortable, finished with Jetpilot embroidery and flips to a second colour or print.

Why do kids wear bucket hats?

Coverage. The brim runs all the way round, so the back of the neck and the tops of the ears, the two places sunscreen never reaches on a wet kid, sit in shade all arvo. It goes from the beach to the backyard without a fuss, which is why it is the hat that gets worn.

What size bucket hat for a 5 year old?

One size fits most. Kids heads vary, so check the notes on the product page, and if it is going to be tight, the adult buckets on hats and caps are the next step.

Is the hat reversible?

Yes, that is the point. Two looks, one hat: a bold plain colour on one side and a print or a second colour on the other, so when one side is covered in sunscreen and sand they flip it, and when they change their mind about the colour they flip it again.

Do you make kids caps?

The kids headwear here is the bucket, because for a kid in the sun the brim wins. Teens who want a snapback or a 5-panel are into the adult caps on hats and caps, which are one size fits most.

Are bucket hats still cool?

Ask the kid, not the parent. They have been on every boat, beach and school oval in the country for a decade and they are on the racers at the ramp too. The reversible one settles the argument by having two answers.

The full rundown on Kids Hats & Bucket Hats

Kids hats, starting with the bucket

Water doubles the sun and a kid in it does not notice the burn until bath time. A kids hat is the piece of sun kit that stays on when the sunscreen has gone, and the bucket is the shape that does the most: a brim all the way round, so ears, neck and nose sit in shade at once. Jetpilot's is the Kids Reversible Bucket Hat, two looks in one, lightweight and comfortable, finished with Jetpilot embroidery and built for long days from the beach to the backyard.

Two looks, one hat

Reversible means a plain colour on one side and a print or a second colour on the other, and the kid picks which side faces out. That is worth more than it sounds. A hat they chose is a hat they keep on; a hat you chose is a hat under the seat of the tinnie. Flip it when one side is covered in sunscreen and sand, flip it again when they change their mind, and it is still one hat in the boat bag.

Bucket or cap

A cap shades the face and leaves the ears and the back of the neck to cook, which is exactly where a wet kid never gets sunscreen. A bucket hat covers all of it. For the boat, the beach and the tube, the bucket wins every time; a cap is for the drive home. The adult snapbacks, 5-panels, buckets and wide brims are on hats and caps for when the grom outgrows the kids one.

Sun first, then the rest

The hat covers the head. The rated pieces on kids rashies carry a UPF 50+ rating on the product page and cover the rest, and on the boat, the ski or the tube an AS 4758 approved kids life jacket goes over the lot, sized by chest and weight rather than age, at the level your state requires. Hat, rashie, jacket, in that order out of the bag, and the day is sorted before the boat is off the trailer.

Sizing

One size fits most. Kids heads vary, so check the notes on the product page, and if it is going to be tight, the adult buckets are the next step. Rinse the salt out in fresh water, dry it out of the sun, and it will outlast the summer, which is more than the sunscreen managed.

The rest of the kids kit

Tees, hydro tees and boardies are on kids clothing; life jackets, wetsuits and the water half of the range are on kids watersports. A hat they keep on beats the one in the bag. Let them pick the side.
