You Have Questions? We Have Answers!

Are dry bags actually waterproof?

A proper one is, and the ones that are not say so. The Venture Dry Safe bags are roll-tops with sonic-welded seams, and the phone pouch is IP68 rated, submersible at 1 metre for 60 minutes. The 80L oversize tote is water-resistant with a sealed zip: it shrugs off spray and a wet wetsuit, not a swim. The mesh bags are the opposite on purpose. They drain.

What is the point of a dry bag?

Your phone, keys and wallet ride in a footwell that fills with water every time you stack it. A dry bag keeps them dry through spray, a dunking and the trip home in a wet ute tray, and it straps down small so it is not the thing bouncing around the hatch.

What size dry bag do I need?

2L for phone, keys and wallet. 5L adds a towel or a change of clothes. 10L takes a day's kit, and the 10L Dry Safe Backpack carries it hands-free. The 50L Waterproof Backpack is the full day out, or the whole tribe's gear.

What is the best dry bag for a jet ski?

One that straps to the ski and closes properly. The Dry Safe roll-tops cinch down small in the hatch, the Handle Bar Bag mounts straight to the bars for the things you need mid-ride, and the waterproof phone pouch keeps the phone usable and dry around your neck.

What is the best dry bag for boating and fishing?

For a dawnie in the tinnie or a run out to the reef, the 10L Dry Safe for the kit and the 50L Waterproof Backpack for the all-dayer, with the Venture Soft Esky, 46 litres inside a heat-sealed PVC liner, for the catch and the cans. All of it is Venture line, built for salt, sun and being stood on.

What is the difference between a dry bag and a waterproof bag?

A dry bag seals with a roll-top rather than a zip, which is why it survives a swim. The 50L Waterproof Backpack is the same job in backpack form. Water-resistant is a different word: the 80L tote shrugs off spray, not a dunking, and the mesh bags do not even try.

What can I use instead of a dry bag?

A zip-lock bag, until the day it does not seal. The phone pouch is IP68 and hangs off your neck, the 2L Dry Safe rolls down to nothing in the hatch, and there is no version of this where the plastic bag wins.

The full rundown on Dry Bags, Waterproof Backpacks & Eskies

Dry bags, waterproof backpacks and the rest of the boat bags

Three groups on this page, and it pays to know which is which before the first swim. If the top rolls, it is a dry bag. If it zips, read the label. If it is mesh, it is meant to leak.

Dry bags and waterproof

The Venture Dry Safe roll-tops come in 2L, 5L and 10L, with a 10L Dry Safe Backpack for hands-free carry off the ski. Roll the top down, clip it, and the sonic-welded seams do the rest. The 50L Waterproof Backpack takes a full day's kit, the Venture Dry Case protects the fragile stuff, and the waterproof phone pouch is IP68 rated, submersible at 1 metre for 60 minutes, sealed with two zip closures, a three-fold seal and a hook-and-loop safety. Built from tough 600D fabrics, a good chunk of it recycled, for salt, sun and being thrown in the footwell.

Eskies and coolers

The Venture Soft Esky runs 46 litres inside a heat-sealed PVC liner with sponge foam insulation, the Venture Cooler holds 36 cans in a 25 litre cool cell, and the Back Rest Chilled Seat Bag keeps the drinks cold and your back off the rear rail. The full run-down is on the eskies and soft coolers page. Warm cans at the sandbar is a choice, and it is the wrong one.

Totes, mesh and carry

The 70L and 80L oversized totes swallow a wet steamer and a towel; the 80L runs water-resistant fabric, sonic-welded seams and a sealed zipper. The mesh tote and the 35L mesh backpack are built to drain, not to seal: bottom drain holes, a hanger hole to dry the vest, foam back, oversized bottle holders, so the gear dries on the way home instead of in the ute on Wednesday. The Transit Backpack and the Essentials Tote cover the everyday, and the Venture Handle Bar Bag straps to the ski for the things you need mid-ride.

Which bag for the job

Phone, keys, wallet — 2L Dry Safe, or the phone pouch around your neck.
Change of clothes and a towel — 5L or 10L Dry Safe.
The all-dayer — 50L Waterproof Backpack, plus the esky.
Wet gear after the sesh — mesh backpack or an oversized tote.

Seek the Horizon: this is Venture Series touring and fishing gear, built for long days out and the drive home after. The rest of the ski setup is on jet ski accessories.
