What is a tow rope?

The line between the vessel and the person being towed, built and rated for that job. A tube rope is rated for the number of riders on the tube; a wake rope is built for one rider on a handle. Anchor line, dock line and the ski rope from the shed are none of those things, and in NSW and Queensland the rope has to keep the tube at least 7 metres behind the boat or ski.

What is the best tow rope for tubing?

Which tow rope do I need for a jet ski?

Tube rope or wake rope, what is the difference?

A tube rope is one long line rated for the load of a loaded tube. A wake rope is sectioned and ends in a handle for one rider: the Wake Rope Combo is a 75 ft four-section PE mainline with a custom JP Velcro rope hanger, and the Wake Surf Tow Rope is 24 ft, four sections, 1859 kg breaking strain. Riders on wake ropes, tubes on tube ropes, never the other way round.

Do tow ropes float?

The wake ropes do. The Wake Surf Tow Rope is a 24 ft floating rope and the Wake Rope Combo floats too, so a stack does not mean diving for it. The Floating Wristband is the same idea for the safety lanyard: neoprene padding for comfort and flotation on a webbing strap with an adjustable Velcro closure.

What tie downs are on this page?

How far behind the boat does the tube have to be?

A tow rope is the cheapest part of the day and the one that decides how it ends. Every rope here is built for real tow duty and rated for a job: a tube rope for a loaded tube, wake ropes for a rider on a handle, and the bungee that sits between the tube and the boat. Rig it, forget it, ride.

Tube rope and the bungee

The 1-4 Person Tube Rope is 60 ft of two-strand PE with an 1882 kg breaking strain, designed for towing up to four riders. Clip the Towable Bungee Cord between rope and tube: 4 ft of 9/16 elastic bungee rated at 1882 kg for 1 to 4 person towables, there to smooth out the strains and stress of towing. When the tube whips wide at the end of a turn, the bungee stretches and the crew on the tube keep their shoulders. Wake ropes are for riders, not tubes.

The Wake Rope Combo runs a 75 ft four-section PE mainline with a custom JP Velcro rope hanger, so it goes back in the boat coiled instead of bird-nested. The Wake Surf Tow Rope is 24 ft, four sections, 1859 kg breaking strain, and it floats, so a stack does not cost you the rope. Consistent, comfortable to hold and matched to how the sport is ridden.

Tie downs, lanyards and the safety kit

The PWC Bungee Dock Tie Twin Pack holds the ski off the pontoon with give in the line. The Floating Wristband clips the safety lanyard to a D-ring on your wrist, fastened to the ski before you start it, with neoprene padding for comfort and flotation and tough ABS plastic hardware. The Marine Safety Lanyard and the Venture Marine Safety Kit cover the basics, and Strong Arm straps are the grab handle for hauling a mate back onto the sled after a rider-down.

The rules, straight

In NSW and Queensland the towing vessel, boat or ski, carries a driver and an observer at all times, the driver on a PWC holds a PWC licence, everyone being towed wears an Australian Standard AS 4758 approved life jacket, and the tube rides at least 7 metres behind. Level 50S is the tow-sports vest and the minimum; Level 50 is the same float in high-vis where your state requires it past smooth water.
