Why riders wear neoprene ride shorts

Three reasons. Warmth on the legs without a full suit. No chafe from the seat over a long sesh, because the neoprene sits flat where fabric bunches and grabs. And they dry fast, so the drive home is not a wet one. On the ski they go under the vest. Behind the boat and on the tube they go over swimmers. Either way, once you have ridden in a pair the boardies stay in the bag.

Pick the length

• 2.5 inch — the short cut, closest to swimmers, for warm days and riders who want nothing in the way.
• 5 inch — mid-thigh, the all-rounder. Also high-waisted, with an external drawstring and extra coverage and support through the waist.
• 7 inch — most of the thigh covered for the long days. Also high-waisted.

Fit

Neoprene is meant to sit snug. Sizes run 6 to 16 by style; size to the size guide rather than up, and go off your waist measurement for the high-waisted cuts. If they sit loose at the leg, the Glideskin seal cannot do its job and you will feel the flush on the first hit.

Care

Rinse them in fresh water after salt, dry in the shade and never leave them wet in a bag. Treated like that, the neoprene keeps its stretch for seasons.
