You Have Questions? We Have Answers!

What life jacket does my child need for a jet ski?

One approved to Australian Standard AS 4758 at the level your state sets, done up properly. Level 50S is the jet ski, wake and tube vest and the minimum on a PWC in every state; Level 50 is the same float in high-vis, which Queensland requires on a PWC in partially smooth and open waters, and it is why The Cause Kids comes in Red and Yellow Level 50. Check your state in the regulations guide, then size by chest and weight, never by age.

Where can I buy kids life jackets?

Right here, online, with the level on every product page, or through a Jetpilot watersports dealer if you want to buckle one on the kid before you buy. The dealer page lists stockists by state. Either way, buy the size that fits now, not the one for next summer.

What sizes does kids watersports gear come in?

Life jackets run 1–2 for babies, then 2–6, 3–4, 4–6, 8–10 and 12–14, with numbered 8 to 16 on the wake vests. Wetsuits, rashies and hydro tees run in youth sizes from 4 to 16 by style. The size guide works off a chest measurement, and the life jacket fit test is the bit parents skip: buckle up on dry land, lift at the shoulders, and if it slides past the chin it is too big.

Is there a life jacket for a baby?

Yes. The Cause Infant is the baby life jacket, size 1–2, with a safety pillow behind the head or as the No Pillow version, approved to AS 4758 with the level marked on each colourway. It sits in this range and on its own infant and baby life jackets page.

Do girls get their own gear?

Yes, and it is the same spec, not the soft version. The Freeride Girls and X1 Girls life jackets, the Girls Long Sleeve Rashie and Swimsuit and the Corp, Posse and Youth Hydro girls rashies are cut for girls; the Cause Kids, the Flight youth wetsuits and the kids hydro tees are cut for either.

What is the Paddle Pal swim vest?

An approved swim vest for pool and beach confidence, not a boating jacket. On the boat, the ski or the tube it is the AS 4758 life jacket at the level your state requires, every time.

What kids watersports gear do we need for the first day on the boat?

A fitted AS 4758 life jacket at the level your state requires, a long sleeve rashie for the sun and, once the water cools, a Flight youth springsuit. The bucket hat is optional; the life jacket is not.

The full rundown on Kids Watersports

Kids watersports gear, from the first float to the first race john

Everything on this page is the same gear the adults wear, cut for a kid who is going to climb on it, sit on it and refuse to take it off. Every kids life jacket and swim vest here is approved to Australian Standard AS 4758 with the level on the product page: most are Level 50S, the jet ski, wake and tube level, and The Cause Kids also comes in Red and Yellow Level 50, the high-vis colourways Queensland requires on a PWC in partially smooth and open waters. Which one your kid needs depends on your state and your water, so read the Australian life jacket regulations guide before the first day out.

Life jackets

The kids life jackets range runs from the Cause Infant at size 1–2, with a safety pillow or without, through the Cause Kids and The Cause Kids for boat days, tube runs and riding pillion, to the Freeride and X1 wake vests for the grom who is already riding. EcoPrene on most of them, Freelite buoyancy foam, YKK zips and quick positive buckles small hands cannot undo by accident. The Paddle Pal Splash is an approved swim vest for pool and beach confidence, and it is not a boating jacket.

Wetsuits and rashies

When the water turns, the Flight youth 2/2mm springsuit and 3/2mm fullsuit in 360 Stretch neoprene keep them in it, and the Rx youth race john with knee and shin pads, and the race jacket that goes over it, are for the ones already lining up on a ski. All of them are on kids wetsuits. For the sun, the kids rashies: long and short sleeve rashies, the girls swimsuit and quick-dry hydro tees, nearly all rated UPF 50+ with the rating on the product page, plus a reversible bucket hat for the walk back to the car.

Sized by chest and weight, never by age

Two kids the same age can be two sizes apart, so the size guide works off a chest measurement, and the life jacket is the one piece you never buy to grow into. Buckle it on dry land, lift gently at the shoulders, and if it slides past the chin it is too big. Same rule for the wetsuit: snug, no loose folds, or it fills with cold water and the session is over in ten minutes.

Buy the size that fits now

Buying online, the level and the size chart are on every product page. Buying in person, the watersports dealers page lists Jetpilot stockists by state, and a kid who has buckled the jacket up themselves in the shop is a kid who wears it on the boat without a fight. Rinse everything in fresh water after a salt day, dry it out of the sun, and it lasts more than one summer, even if the kid does not fit it that long.
